Schwenksville, PA – December 8th, 2022 – The Perkiomen Creek is in the running for the state’s 2023 River of the Year Award presented by the Pennsylvania Organization of Watersheds and Rivers (POWR). The other three nominees are the Conestoga River, our neighboring Schuylkill River, and Susquehanna River North Branch. In September, the Perkiomen Creek became an official PA State Water Trail, making it the newest water trail in the state. The “Perky”, as most residents refer to it, has 14 miles of navigable waters from south of Green Lane down to the confluence with the Schuylkill near Oaks. Maps and video guides of the three main sections of the Perkiomen Creek can be found on the Perkiomen Watershed Conservancy’s website. The Perkiomen Watershed Conservancy fosters local stewardship of the Perky and its many tributaries through environmental education, watershed stewardship, and conservation programs.
